Architects Foster + Partners are set to design Apple’s new ‘Spaceship’ building in Cupertino, California, to be completed in 2015. It is projected to be a highly futuristic building only conceivable from the imagination. Apple has been criticized before because of a lack of environmentally friendly credentials. This time however, Apple is set to have a completely self-sufficient structure able to hold about 13,000 employees, and relies on the electrical grid only as a backup. It is to be built with eco-friendly materials, and a solar paneled roof. The 150-acre site is intended to be 80% green landscape with over 2,300 trees. Not only is it green, but this building is promised to be one of the most technologically advanced offices in the world, so one can only guess what Apple is going to create next – this time with energy from the sun.
