Recycle Days
What is Recycling Day?
Twice a year, in the fall and spring, SAVE has their community recycling days open to the whole community to participate. During these events, the community can stop by and have their recyclables taken from their cars from the 50-70 SAVE volunteers and placed around our drive in parking lot. The events are organized by our wonderful SAVE interns.
What is Recycled?
Cardboard-we collect about one and a half to two tons worth
Old books- we donate the books to charity or we recycle them for the paper contents
Bottle caps- send them to Aveda Company to melt them down and make them into shampoo bottles. We collected about 5-10 boxes full
Tires- collected by Hugh Tague, which are then chipped up to be used as playground chips and asphalt
Scrap metal- collect about 3-4 tons worth and SAVE is rein burst (we received $861.90 this October)
Cell phones- taking to a local company and then we are rein burst
Appliances- give to David York and the CFC’s are collected and sent to a company in Florida. The parts are recycled.
Computer Ink Cartridges- recycle them
Clothes- we donate them to charity such as Big Brothers Big Sisters and Purple Heart
Car batteries- Recycled in a special chemically conscious faciltiy thanks to generous community members.
